A social media story
Social media marketing is hard… doesn’t work… no ROI… blah. Here’s a quick story of how it does and can work – and learn how to get some free business cards that are AWESOME.
Every day I check in on Facebook as I drink my morning Coffee. Today I was groggy and saw this this about business cards and cover photos. My mind didn’t even register it.
I glanced over it
A few hours later I see someone else talking about it – it was Peter Cashmere of Mashable and it had over 300 likes and 200 shares. That much social traction gets my attention.
Social Proof Kicked In
I look a little deeper and drop the link into my favorite facebook group – the 24/7 Networking group and tag 3 of the trendiest girls I know who might actually buy them. Lauren Huston the Social Media Lifestylist jumps in and starts raving about them and I Instantly go watch a promo video on Moo.com I was instantly sold at the concept.

The excitement starts. I get tagged on my fb wall with a client who wants to share the experience with our designer friend. The conversation starts and people point out its FREE. Susie was the first to get her order in, Mandee second and then a few more chime in, including myself.
This is how social marketing works.
It’s never 1 link. It’s never 1 voice. It’s a combination of seeing the same graphic a few times, reading the offer and getting opinions from some trusted friends.
How will people find your product? Some random tweet or around a long fun conversation in an established facebook group?
Facebook ads are beginning to fascinate me, but more and more I find myself leveraging facebook groups to really gain insight, promote good offers, and eventually buy a product.
Kudos to Moo and Facebook
Oh – so the promotion was for the 1st 200,000 people to get it free which wasn’t clear initially because I was moving quickly — thanks to my network it all sank in and I can’t WAIT for my new cards to come in the mail (free shipping too!). I think its a brilliant way for them to find creative, talented ways people are leveraging cover photos that can be used in their future portfolios and they just grew a mini group of brand ambassadors from my little corner of the world.
If I was betting for money I would have won
My Friend Susie was the 1st to jump in, Mandee was the first to show her new business cards to the group. Looks good right!? Check out the dialogue it generated – 30 comments, in an hour! That is what happens when social marketing is done right.

Get Your Moo Cards now – the promotion is for the first 200,000 and I’m pretty sure that gives you until Saturday to pick yours up. It’s a clever system that takes your cover photos – for new timeline users only – and turns it into a fancy business card. I thought Business cards were a thing of the past but with a little innovation they’re back. Read the original article here and catch the video I watched at Moo.com
How did the Moo / Facebook Cover offer come into your experience?
